As I sat down reading the Mumbai Mirror in the morning, a shiver ran through my body as I read the pages giving reports of the Shakti Mill rape case. It was the height of nonsense and brutalism. Starting with the recent case of Nirbhaya of Delhi, frequent acid attacks on women and now the Shakti mill rape case, it seems that the twin crime capitals of Mumbai and Delhi have begun a cut throat competition and are infamously prospering with loads of crimes, assaults and abuses towards women. The financial  and political capital though historically interesting  to  visit, have become  ‘visit at your own risk’ places, making it incredibly dangerous for the tourists  to visit incredible India.

                             The case of Nirbhaya of Delhi   was indeed an eye opener. But the pace, at which the case was dealt with, eradicated the fear of law from minds of the perverts. And the statement of one of the accused in the Shakti mill rape case, “I never imagined that she’d  call the police “ highlights the fact that the thugs  not only feel that the law is nothing to be scared of but also  feel  that  women are miserable creatures  who can be soft  targeted  at.

         This needs to be and must be changed. But have we any solutions? And if we have any, then are we successful in implementing them?

                      We do have a terrific solution of killing such perverts by torturing them. But then our very own people who work as human rights activists come in the way, saying that we have no right to kill them as they have human rights.

      But I would like to pose a question before these activists   ----- where do the human rights of the victim disappear when she is victimized? Isn’t she a human too?

     I personally feel that the accused must not be given a single chance to live under the garb of ‘human rights’. The accused is not a human but at dreadful, violent and uncivilized creature in the disguise of a human being. And as animals do not have human rights,because of them not being humans  these creatures too must not be allowed to enjoy the human rights.

Cogitating over this very issue I strongly believe and opine, that  the only  things  which  could end such behavior would be making the law even strict, not granting bail to such perverts, subjecting them to torture killing, educating the Boys about protecting Girls and looking  up to them as their own sisters, coaching the girls in self-defense techniques, and lastly but most importantly educating and convincing our dear human rights activists about who must enjoy the rights and who mustn’t.

Let’s do our bit in the process of improving the situation and begin doing the same from this very moment. Let’s hope that the government amends the constitution, making a strict law, and the activists get a piece of good preaching. And let us stand united as one. As after all, ‘Unity is Strength!’
